This is Taub: confident, a little sneaky, anxious to get on the team.

“What is interesting about Taub is that while he made a killing as a successful plastic surgeon in New York, where he was doing mostly boob jobs and nips and tucks that the fancy people want done, he is clearly an exceptional doctor. I like to think that he wasn’t always a plastic surgeon and he might have had other practices and he is a really, really smart doctor.”

—PETER JACOBSON

Intrigued, House checks up on Taub at his old practice. Taub’s married but got caught fooling around (with his partner’s daughter) and had to leave. “Some people pop pain pills,” says Taub. “I cheat. We all have our vices.” Taub now has the dubious honor of being deemed interesting to House. House has dirt on him and can torture him: He won’t bother with someone boring. So House calls Taub “mini-stud” and says he’s not a real doctor. Much later (in “Lockdown”), when Foreman reads Taub’s file, we discover Taub peaked very early—he published in the New England Journal of Medicine at twenty-six. He may be trying now to live up to that prodigious promise.

QUESTION: “House is tough on Taub. His failings are human failings…”
